Boxing for Penn State Students Learn Where the Club Trains
Legacy Boxing is the approved practice facility for the Penn State Boxing Club
If you're a Penn State student who wants to get into boxing, whether you're thinking about the club team or just want to learn, Legacy Boxing is where you start. Coach Derek Roth leads both the club and our open classes. Train in the same gym, with the same coaches, on your own schedule.
The Connection to Penn State Boxing
Legacy Boxing is an approved facility for Penn State Boxing Club practice. Coach Derek Roth, 2023 NCBA Coach of the Year and Head Coach of the Penn State Boxing Club, coaches here full time.
Penn State Boxing Club practices are for club members only and are not open to the public. If you're looking to attend or observe a club practice, you'll need to connect with the club directly through Penn State.
What Legacy Boxing does offer is something just as valuable: open classes where anyone can train. Many current PSU boxers hold Legacy memberships and train during our regular class hours in addition to their club commitments.
Want to Join the Boxing Club? Start Here.
The Penn State Boxing Club is open to all students. No experience is required to attend practice, which runs Monday and Wednesday evenings at the IM Building. You show up, train with the team, and learn. If you want to compete, you can try out for the travel squad from there.
Training at Legacy first gives you a real head start. You'll come in with footwork, defense, and combinations already in your body, coached by the same person who leads the club. That foundation lets you get more out of every club practice from day one.
No experience is required to start. Your first class is free.

Common Questions from Penn State Students
Is this the Penn State Boxing Club?
No. Legacy Boxing & Combat Sports Academy is a private gym. Legacy is an approved facility for Penn State Boxing Club practice, and Coach Derek Roth leads both, but Legacy's open classes are separate from the club. Anyone can train here with a Legacy membership.
Can I attend Penn State Boxing Club practice here?
Club practices are private and exclusive to club members. They are not open to the public. Legacy's own classes run on a separate schedule and are open to everyone. If your goal is to join the club, training at Legacy first is the best way to build the skills you'll need.
I have no boxing experience. Is that okay?
That's exactly who this is for. Every class covers the same fundamentals: stance, footwork, defense, and combinations, regardless of who is in the room. Most people who train here started with zero experience. You'll build real skills quickly with structured coaching, not just cardio.
Will I train with Penn State boxing club members?
Very likely. Many PSU Boxing Club members hold Legacy memberships and train during our regular class hours. Legacy is where they put in extra work outside of club commitments. Training alongside them is one of the fastest ways to raise your own level.
How much does it cost? Are there student discounts?
